"The sale of Argentine beef in China has a bright future," said the Asian giant's ambassador.

"The sale of Argentine beef in China has a bright future," said the Asian giant's ambassador.

Far from the desire of the next United States ambassador to distance Argentina from "malign influences" like that of China , the Asian giant is encouraging the growth of the bilateral relationship, especially through the purchase of agricultural products.

Regarding the statements, the Chinese Embassy in Buenos Aires had stated that "Argentina should not become a 'battlefield' for struggles between great powers," but rather a place of cooperation. Along these lines, and within the framework of the Palermo Rural Exposition, Ambassador Wang Wei visited the show to learn about the potential of Argentina's agricultural sector firsthand .

"I came to see this famous exhibition and also to better understand Argentine agriculture, which is a very important area for the nation. This value chain is essential for Argentina," the diplomat explained during his tour.

Among the aspects that most caught his attention, he highlighted “the Angus breed and agro-industrial machinery.”

Regarding the beef trade, where the Asian giant accounts for approximately 70% of Argentine exports , Wang Wei was optimistic: “China is a huge consumer market. Our beef trade has a solid foundation . With increasing demand from Chinese consumers for high-quality protein, the sale of Argentine beef in China has a bright future .”

Argentina exported 31,100 tons of boneless beef (US$152.5 million) and 16,300 tons of beef on the bone (US$32.8 million) to China in June. This represents 77.2% of the total export volume for that month and 69% of the total half-yearly volume.

Asked about the first export of Argentine soybean meal to China , the product that generates the most dollars in Argentina, he said: "All trade starts from the smallest to the largest. As long as the products meet market needs and there are willing buyers, trade will grow."

It's worth remembering that Bunge closed a deal to ship 30,000 tons of the product by September, marking the first export since the market was opened six years ago . China, the world's largest consumer of soybean meal for animal feed, typically produces it locally from imported soybeans, mainly from Brazil and the United States.

Finally, Wang Wei emphasized the importance of greater promotion of Argentine food products in the Chinese market . “It's essential for suppliers to hold promotional events. With more activities, if the Chinese market finds more products it wants, there will undoubtedly be more trade.”
